After two years on iOS, the Be My Eyes app is finally available to those with Android phones, greatly expanding the number of people available to contribute to it.
For those who are unfamiliar with the free mobile app, it was designed to give “sight” to the blind and visually impaired. It works by allowing sighted people to volunteer their time to help others through a live video connection.
The app boasts over half a million users across 150 countries and is available 24/7. Since its inception, Be My Eyes has grown to become the largest online community for the blind and visually impaired.
The creators of the app have reported there being around 270 thousand help sessions, with over 500 thousand sighted users helping 38 thousand blind ones. For just a few minutes a day, you can aid in allowing a blind or visually impaired person to live a few moments of independence they otherwise wouldn’t be able to experience.
