The Civil War may have ended over a century and a half ago, but the U.S. government hasn’t finished paying every pension yet. That’s because 86-year-old Irene Triplett is still collecting a monthly pension of $73.13 from her father, who was a Civil War veteran.

The Veteran’s Association has always been dedicated to ensuring that veterans’ spouses and dependents are taken care of, even long after that veteran has passed on. Since her mother was deceased at the time, Irene became the recipient and remains the very last person to still be collecting money from the Civil War.
